EEE Documented in the Region
Two horses in Suffolk, Virginia, have tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). This almost always-fatal illness is carried by mosquitoes. As with some other arboviral diseases, horses are a dead end host and can not infect other horses or humans.

The Maryland Arbovirus Surveillance Testing results document that mosquito pools testing positive for EEE have been found in Worcester and Wicomico counties.

The mosquito season hits its peak during the months of August and September, so it is strongly recommended that you have your horse vaccinated against EEE.

MDhorse.com will provide updates as they become available.
