5th Annual Horse World Expo
|
The 5th Annual Horse World Expo in Timonium, Maryland, will take place over the weekend of January 19th through the 21st. Friday’s events will start at noon and last until 9:00 p.m., while Saturday’s begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until 8:00 p.m. Sunday’s activities begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 6:00 p.m.
The Horse World Expo features retail trade shows from hundreds of vendors selling various horse-related products and services; educational seminars and mounted demonstrations; and, a showing of stallions of “Stallion Avenue” and a parade of breeds. It is an exciting three days with renowned figures of various disciplines and backgrounds, including John Lyons, Pat Parelli, GaWaNi Pony Boy, and Richard Shrake. Among the many topics of discussion are retraining a horse with bad behavior (Lyons); determining a horse’s trainable attitude and athletic ability (Shrake); the importance of choosing the proper bit for your horse (Shrake); a look at how the horse thinks and its relationship with the human (Pony); and, key points to look for in evaluating a horse for purchase (Pony). Kathy and Allan Schwartz of the Days End Farm Horse Rescue will also present a series of lectures on “Starting a Horse Rescue,” “Humane Issues in the Horse Industry,” and “Equine Professionals for Horse Welfare.”
There will be a variety of demonstrations, including a mock game of the recently approved USPC discipline of Polocrosse; a session on target training; methods of properly fitting a saddle to the horse and the advantages of that proper fit; a performance of freestyle dressage; and special techniques in braiding a horse’s mane and tail. Friday’s events also include a panel discussion regarding the recent 2000 Olympics in Sydney, featuring David O’Connor, Karen O’Connor, Phillip Dutton, Beezie Madden, and Alison Firestone.
The Horse World Expo also offers everyone the opportunity to gain insight from experts about better barn and pasture management tactics, medical treatment alternatives, and all-around horse care. The Expo provides valuable information for horse owners and enthusiasts of all different backgrounds and disciplines.
