The author, 33-year old Laura Hillenbrand, is something of a Seabiscuit success story herself. A pale, slim blonde, who says, “I feel I was born to tell this story,” has been debilitated by chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) since 1987. After nearly a year in bed she spend years writing Seabiscuit and in all that time never met a single source in person. She conducted endless phone interviews and combed the Internet.
Her book has been on The New York Times Best Seller List and she is using this opportunity to become a spokeswoman for CFS. Maybe the spirit of Seabiscuit is contagious. |
