Days End Farm Horse Rescue "Share a Heart" Program |
“Share A Heart” School Program is designed to educate children about animal cruelty, with specific attention on abuse and neglect of horses. During the lesson, DEFHR discusses their role in the rescue and rehabilitation of abused and neglected horses, with a story on the beginnings of the farm itself. They also talk about the differences between abuse and neglect, including examples and causes of each, along with pictures and props for visual aid. DEFHR outlines the key factors in proper horse care, including food, medical considerations, grooming, training, and exercise. They encourage the students to become involved citizens by teaching them how to report cases of abuse and neglect, and by suggesting to them to volunteer their own services at the farm. The Lecture Series is an outreach program to educate horse owners and other members of the general public about quality care and treatment of horses. The series of lectures touches on a variety of issues including, but not limited to:
- First time horse ownership
- Starting a horse rescue
- Equine cruelty investigation
- Humane issues in the horse industry
- Equine professionals for horse welfare
These lectures have been given at numerous sites, including Equitana USA and the Horse World Expo.
