Colombia Steps Up
Originally, France and Sweden were to participate in the international team events, such as the International Open Jumper competition, which included the Gambler’s Choice, Puissance, and the President’s Cup. Due to quarantine issues, however, France and Sweden both bowed out of the event.

Scrambling to find at least one more international team to join the United States and Canada in this competition, the WIHS organizers requested the presence of the Colombian team which had also just appeared in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. It has always been quite common to marvel at the competitions waged with our European allies, along with our northern neighbor. This year has proved a real treat, however, to be able to witness the equestrian talent of a South American country. Manuel Torres, on his Brazilian-bred mount, Marco, demonstrated their immense equestrian capabilities in the International Open Jumper Puissance class on Friday evening. The pair succeeded to the next to last round, nicely clearing the six foot, nine inch wall. We need to send a special “thanks” to the Colombian team for stepping in so quickly, with such little notice, and providing some great competition.
